| Ted McLean (Houston, TX)
"Each of El Atelier's pieces is a unique combination of sun, soil, weather and artistry," says turner Ted McLean. El Atelier began in Peru, one of the world's most biodiverse countries, encompassing the driest desert (the Atacama), the Amazon Rain Forest, and the Andes Mountains. Every piece is made solely from salvaged wood that comes from tree stumps, prunings, or trunks rescued from rivers.
The walls of his pieces are barely thicker than an eggshell. They reveal the veins, knots, and natural coloring of the wood which is brought together by nature and the artistry of the turner.
El Atelier's second workshop opened when Ted's family moved to Houston. He now divides his time between Houston and Peru.
