Steve Nan was born in Sichuan, China, one of the largest and most inaccessible provinces in the nation. It was there where his parents worked for a factory making antique lacquer ware. It was the craftsman who made those antiques that, "inspired me to decide to study art," says Steve Nan.
Also, in high school he often visited his grandparents in Jiuzhaigou. Jiuzhaigou is a deep valley and UNESCO World Heritage site of stunning beauty located in north Sichuan. Steve Nan spent most of his time there sketching and drawing by one of the many lakes.
He graduated from the Fine Art Department of Neimenggu Normal University in 1999 and studied at the Xiamen University of art and design through 2001. He now lives in Beijing.
